Longwood Gardens is one of my happy places. If I had to be Robin Williams in the movie Hook... the Gardens would help me fly and not fall comedically out of a window. I never get tired of wandering around the conservatory and the cacti/succulent room will forever hold a piece of my heart. I guess I'm one of " those people" that enjoys being surrounded by plants that were born before my grandparents and will inevitably outlive me. I can't explain why I move on from the roses and head straight for the bizarre succulents that seem to be X-Files props. I hope you go even if you are a strictly roses fan. It's impressive either way.
Picture Day
One of my favorite places in Washington D.C. is the Natural History Museum. I enjoy perusing fossils that make me feel young and ant-like. While many of the bones I've photographed are parts of animals that should intimidate me, the color palette that goes along with them reminds me of a late eighties high school picture day. And since fossils and the eighties are two things I love, they are the focus of today's blog post. Enjoy!
Lakeside Amusement Park
Lakeside is an amusement park operating since 1908 in Denver Colorado. My friend Michelle moved to Denver and waited for my boyfriend and I to visit and explore this gem of a place. We paid our three dollars and wander around a sea of old neon signs. The rides looked like they were held together with bubblegum and paperclips, which only made me love Lakeside more. A photographer, a videographer, and a graphic designer; we weren't there to ride. When entering we saw " no camera signs" , which did nothing to stop me from whipping out my Holga and double exposing all over the place. Film photographs were perfect for this place and double exposure boasted the dreamlike quality of Lakeside. The park gave me the feeling I constantly search for with photography and could only be described as nostalgic. If you are ever in Denver and you have an extra three dollars I would highly recommend a Lakeside visit.
